Good work so far!

Thanks for your great comments on the last blog. So far, each of you is earning 100% in this course. Up till now, I've awarded full marks to everyone simply for doing your assignments of making blog comments. Starting today, I will begin to to evaluate the quality of your comments. Thoughtful, well written comments that add something NEW to a discussion will get high marks. Lower marks will be given for comments that lack thought, don't add something new, or are poorly written. Quality is better than quantity--in other words, make it good, not long! For tonight's assignment, read through the comments your classmates made last time on the qualities of basketball team leadership. Comment on one person's comment(not your own). You might share why you disagree with them. Or you might share an example that demonstrates what they wrote about. Or maybe you can add something to what they wrote to make it better. Be respectful and try to add to our understanding of "leadership." See y'all Thursday! (Mr H)

  1. I am commenting on the comment made by Jaron
I 100% agree with Jaron and I think Jaron showed leadership in all of these ways all 4 games I played with him last year. Jaron asked me and Ben to step up to senior and play he showed us all of the plays and practiced them with us encouraging us all the way. When I got playing time I really did not do the best but on the way down of up he court Jaron would tell me how to improve and I was doing good. When we were on offence he would involve me in the play as well as try pass me the ball, knowing that I am not the best player. Then when I was on the bench Jaron, I would watch Jaron be a true team player as well as show case his skills.
In my opinion Jaron knows what a true leader is and is also a true leader.
Jaron you are a great leader

  2. I am commenting on Ben's comment.
I agree that leaders don't necessarily have to be the best players but that they need to be encouraging. Playing on the team with Ben 2 years ago, Ben would always stay positive and encourage all of us. Ben is a good player and even in the bad games he showed he was a leader by never giving up.

  4. I agree with Nats comment. Being respected, looked up to and encouraging are critical to being a good leader. Also what I have learned over the last couple of days is that a leader has the ability to bring a team together, and never give up on the goal that he has inspired into his or her teammates.

  5. In response to Luke's comment, I say that I agree. I believe that a leader shoudl possess leadership qualities on and off the court. This course will probably help us learn how to transfer leadership skills from on the the court to off it, or vice versa. Leaders should be leaders everywhere, not necessarily all teh time, but they should try to use those skills.

  6. I'm commenting on the absolute truth that is Gabby's comment from last week. Gabby said, "What makes a leader is someone is respectful to all the teammates", and I completely agree. I think a leaader should have humility and lower himself/herself before others. Leading is also a serving role, and in order to serve others needs best, one must have the right stare of mind as to be able to humble as mentioned above. Well said, Gabby.
